— 10×10 Photobooks

About Larissa Leclair’s selection for the 10×10 Reading Room:

Self-publishing and collaborative imprints are becoming mainstream for a new generation of photographers. From zines, to newsprint, and more traditional looking monographs to handmade artist books, the photobooks selected for 10×10 highlight the exciting diversity in contemporary independent publishing. All but one of the photobooks were published in 2011 and 2012. The photographers represent a list of influential and important current American bookmakers. A few decades ago, the avid photobook collector could seek out all of the published books. Today, this is impossible, which speaks to the ever-important role of exhibitions like this, as well as the mission of the Indie Photobook Library.

Highlights from Leclair’s selection:

Paula McCartney. On Thin Ice, In a Blizzard. (Minneapolis: self-published, 2011).
Edition of 500. 25 x 20 cm. (36 pp).

Jason Fulford. Crushed. (Atlanta: J&L Books, 2003).
23 x 18 cm. (47 pp).
